HA TIEN is now run by our family’s second generation. We’ve been cooking in Regensburg for nearly 20 years – and our story goes back even further: over 80 years ago, our great-grandparents opened a restaurant in Hanoi that is still family-run today. Cooking has always been our passion – and so has sustainability.

Located right in the old town, we’ve always been a popular spot for takeaway – lunch breaks, dinner by the Danube, or a cozy meal at home. But when the pandemic hit and we switched almost entirely to takeout, one thing became clear: takeaway also means a lot of waste.

Even before COVID, we used recyclable packaging like PP, rPET, sugarcane bagasse and cardboard – but they weren’t perfect for all dishes. We knew we needed something better.

That’s when we discovered VYTAL, a Cologne-based start-up offering a digital reusable system for restaurants. We were immediately convinced – and became the first restaurant in Regensburg to join their pilot project.

Today, together with VYTAL, we’re taking an important step: reducing waste while showing that every guest can be part of the solution.

The big difference: No deposit required. Everything works easily through the VYTAL app (available for iPhone & Android).

Here’s how it works:

1. Download the app & register – enter your details and get your personal QR code.
2. Order & scan the bowl – each container has its own QR code, which we link to your account.
3. 14 days free of charge – return the bowl on time and you pay nothing.
4. Miss the deadline? After 14 days, a €10 fee applies and the bowl is yours. It’s 100% leak-proof, microwave-safe, and perfect to reuse at home.

The app lets you track how many bowls you have, when you returned them, and when each one is due. If you bring back a purchased bowl, you’ll even get 5 VYTAL credits for deadline extensions.

All bowls are professionally cleaned and put back into the system – reducing waste and protecting the environment.
